Noelle Jackson-Green

During her early childhood, Noelle learned to speak Spanish fluently from her Dominican nanny, ultimately becoming the nanny’s translator whenever the nanny visited doctors for healthcare. The early immersion in learning Spanish and resulting fluid capacity to speak and understand Spanish in a healthcare environment crystallized Noelle’s interest in healthcare and the central role language can play in the delivery and consumption of quality healthcare. Noelle came to understand that language barriers can materially prevent, on the one, an accurate description of a health concern by a patient and, on the other hand, be a cause of misdiagnosis of an ailment by physicians or a misunderstanding of the proposed therapeutic solution by patients. Ultimately, Noelle’s nascent interest in healthcare materialized into a career choice in healthcare administration. She plans to help enhance healthcare delivery by promoting clear language communication as an essential, ongoing element in the administration of healthcare. A rising sophomore at Elon College, Noelle is studying healthcare and business administration. Her stellar academic performance during her freshman year earned her a scholarship to attend the London School of Economics for study this summer. Noelle hails from New Rochelle, New York.
